Rolling Stones, even after all these years, prove a sure bet in Las Vegas

Mick Jagger, the timeless frontman of the Rolling Stones, issued a playful challenge to the Flamingo midway through the band’s performance at Allegiant Stadium on Saturday.

Recounting a gambling venture at the famed Strip casino during the band’s early days in 1964, Jagger vowed to reclaim his past losses. Whether he followed through on this promise remains unconfirmed. Nevertheless, the Stones delivered an unforgettable night of their iconic hits, from the familiar opening chords of “Start Me Up” to the encore finale of “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” captivating fans of all ages.

Accompanied by Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and a stellar band lineup, including longtime bass guitarist Darryl Jones, saxophonist Tim Ries, keyboardist Matt Clifford, Chuck Leavell on keyboards, and Steve Jordan on drums, the Stones brought boundless energy to the stage.

In Las Vegas as part of their “Hackney Diamond Tour,” spanning 16 cities across the U.S. and Canada, the Stones showcased not just energy but also endurance. Despite Jagger’s visibly weathered face, the knighted rock star defied his age with relentless movement and charisma, utilizing every inch of the expansive stage.

Highlights of the night included tracks from their latest album “Hackney Diamonds” and electrifying renditions of classics like “Miss You,” “Paint It Black,” and “Honky Tonk Women.” The band’s cover of Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone” and a powerful performance of “Gimme Shelter” with backup singer Chanel Haynes left the audience roaring.

As the night concluded, one couldn’t help but wonder if this marked the Stones’ final Vegas show. Regardless, if it was indeed their farewell, it was a spectacular finale. Yet, with the Stones, one should never rule out another encore performance.
