Rockets Take Control: Warriors Lose Game 2 After Butler’s Injury

  • The Warriors lost Game 2 to the Rockets 109-94, tying the series 1-1.
  • Jimmy Butler’s injury and Brandin Podziemski’s illness hurt the Warriors’ chances.
  • Jalen Green led Houston with 38 points, including eight 3-pointers, to secure the win.

The Golden State Warriors are now under pressure after losing Game 2 in Houston to the Rockets by 15 points. The Rockets won 109-94, tying the first-round Western Conference series 1-1. Without Jimmy Butler, who was injured early in the game, the Warriors couldn’t keep up. This loss puts them in a tough spot as they head home to San Francisco. They need to win the next game to stay in the series.

Jimmy Butler’s Injury is a Big Blow

Jimmy Butler’s injury was a huge setback for the Warriors. He played only 7 minutes before he had to leave. Butler suffered a pelvis contusion after taking a hard fall during a foul in the first quarter. This left the Warriors without one of their star players for the rest of the game. Butler had been a key contributor in Game 1, scoring 25 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. Losing him early in Game 2 left the Warriors struggling.

Jalen Green Leads the Rockets to Victory

Jalen Green had an outstanding performance for the Rockets. He scored 38 points and made eight 3-pointers. Green’s strong showing helped Houston take control of the game. This was a big improvement from his performance in Game 1, where he scored just seven points. Green’s hot shooting was the main reason the Rockets pulled away. His 38 points were more than enough to lead his team to a 109-94 win.

Warriors Struggled Without Key Players

The Warriors faced many challenges during the game. In addition to Butler’s injury, Brandin Podziemski was dealing with a stomach issue. Podziemski missed most of the first half and did not score in 14 minutes of play. He had been a strong contributor in Game 1, scoring 14 points. Without Butler and Podziemski at full strength, the Warriors were left at a major disadvantage. Their lack of depth showed as the Rockets dominated.

Rockets Get Help from Other Players

It wasn’t just Jalen Green who helped the Rockets. Alperen Sengun also had a strong game, scoring 17 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. His double-double performance gave the Rockets another boost. Tari Eason came off the bench and contributed 14 points. The Rockets’ supporting players stepped up and gave them the edge they needed. With everyone contributing, the Rockets were able to take control and maintain their lead.

Warriors Make a Late Push

Despite being down by 20 points with 10 minutes left, the Warriors didn’t give up. They managed to go on a 9-0 run. Two of those points came from Quinten Post, who hit two 3-pointers. This small run brought the Warriors within 11 points of the Rockets. But it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback. The Rockets quickly regained control. Green hit a step-back 3-pointer to push the lead back to 19 points. That shot pretty much sealed the win for Houston.

Tempers Flare as Game Gets Heated

As the game progressed, tempers began to flare. Late in the game, Jalen Green was called for a flagrant foul. He hit Draymond Green in the face with an arm. This sparked some tension on the court. Both teams received technical fouls. Draymond Green argued with the officials, while Tari Eason got one for throwing a towel in an unsportsmanlike manner. The game became chippy as frustrations boiled over.

Curry Reaches Playoff Milestone

Stephen Curry also had a solid performance. He scored 20 points and recorded 9 assists. With those points, Curry reached a major milestone. He became the 11th player in NBA history to reach 4,000 career playoff points. He now has 4,017 points. Curry’s milestone was a bright spot in an otherwise tough game for the Warriors. His leadership will be key as the team looks to bounce back.

Warriors Need to Regroup for Game 3

The Warriors will need to regroup before Game 3. They are returning to San Francisco, where they’ll need to win to avoid falling behind in the series. Losing Butler for Game 2 hurt, but the Warriors still have their star player in Curry. They’ll need a strong effort from everyone, especially if Butler is unable to play in Game 3. With the series tied at 1-1, it’s all to play for in the next game. The Warriors must find a way to bounce back if they want to advance.
