Reynolds and McElhenney acquire Wrexham Lager brewery following their revitalization of the local football club.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have expanded their investment in Wrexham by acquiring the local brewery.
This move comes four years after the two actors surprised many with their purchase of the struggling Wrexham soccer team, marking a new chapter in their involvement with the community in North Wales.
The brewery they have purchased, Wrexham Lager, boasts a rich history dating back to its founding in 1882, claiming to be the oldest lager brewery in Britain still operational.

Their involvement is expected to enhance the brewery’s aspirations for international growth in production and distribution.
In a joint statement, Reynolds and McElhenney noted the insights they’ve gained as co-chairmen of Wrexham AFC.
They emphasized the relationship between the soccer club and its community, joked about the offside rule, and acknowledged the importance of having a good beer, especially post-financial discussions.
“Wrexham Lager has a 140-year-old recipe and a storied history, and we’re excited to help write its next chapter,” they added.

While the financial specifics of the deal were not made public, it has been confirmed that Reynolds and McElhenney hold a majority share in the brewery.
Wrexham Lager announced that the acquisition was executed through Red Dragon Ventures, a collaborative effort between Reynolds, McElhenney, and the Allyn family from New York, who recently became minority stakeholders in Wrexham AFC as well.

Since acquiring the soccer club for $2.5 million in late 2020, the two have navigated Wrexham’s ascent within the English soccer hierarchy.
The team has celebrated consecutive promotions and currently competes in League One, standing third after completing 13 matches this season.

The celebrity owners have also helped shine a spotlight on Wrexham through their documentary series, “Welcome to Wrexham,” which has contributed to increased tourism and economic activity in the area, benefiting local businesses like Wrexham Lager.
Reynolds has previously dabbled in the beverage industry with his ownership stake in Aviation Gin, which was sold to Diageo in 2020 for a reported $610 million; however, he maintains an ongoing interest in the brand.

The Roberts family, who played a crucial role in reviving Wrexham Lager in 2011 after a production halt in 2000, will continue as co-owners of the brewery alongside Reynolds and McElhenney.
