Republican state attorneys general association reinstates leader who stepped down following January 6 events.

An organization dedicated to electing Republicans to state attorney general roles is reinstating a former executive director who stepped down following the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

On Friday, the Republican Attorneys General Association announced the reappointment of Adam Piper.
Piper previously served in this capacity from 2018 until early 2021, resigning after a fundraising entity connected to the association launched a robocall urging supporters, referred to as “patriots,” to attend a rally named the March to Save America and to march towards the Capitol to “continue the fight to protect the integrity of our elections.”
This rally ultimately escalated into the breaching of the Capitol by supporters of former President Trump.

While the robocall did not advocate for violence or encourage the invasion of the building where lawmakers were validating the results of the 2020 presidential election, it did cause significant controversy.
During Piper’s tenure, Republicans succeeded in flipping two attorney general seats in 2019, while also managing to retain all seats in 2020.
Kris Kobach, the Kansas Attorney General and chair of the Republican Attorneys General Association, stated that Piper’s expertise will be instrumental for the Republicans in retaining the Virginia attorney general position this year, as well as in making future gains in the year 2026.
Piper brings significant political experience from his time in South Carolina politics.
Attorneys general function as the principal lawyers for their states, with many overseeing legal prosecutions.
In recent years, their roles have expanded, especially in contesting federal policies when there is a different party in control of the White House.
