Renowned Maze Vocalist Frankie Beverly Passes Away at Age 77

Frankie Beverly, acclaimed for his smooth and soulful voice and renowned anthems like “Before I Let Go,” has passed away at the age of 77. His family made the announcement of his death on the band’s website and social media pages, noting his immense impact and talent. The cause of death and location were not disclosed.

Frankie Beverly, known for hits such as “Joy and Pain,” “Love is the Key,” and “Southern Girl,” recently concluded his “I Wanna Thank You Tour” in Philadelphia, his hometown. His performances were widely adored, especially at events like the Essence Festival of Culture in New Orleans, where fans would dance joyfully to his music.

The Essence Festival organizers paid tribute to Beverly, mentioning how his melodies had become embedded in the hearts of many, continuing to inspire generations. Marc Morial, a fan and former mayor of New Orleans, emphasized the positive themes of love, happiness, and togetherness found in Beverly’s music.

Born Howard Stanley Beverly in 1946, he took inspiration from Frankie Lymon and changed his name to Frankie. Maze, the band he led, started in Philadelphia before relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area. The guidance of Marvin Gaye led to the band’s name change and the release of their debut album in 1977.

Beverly’s music often carried themes of love and positivity which resonated deeply with fans. Celebrities like Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts expressed their grief over his passing, acknowledging the lasting impact of Beverly’s music. Lifelong fans, including New Orleans resident Sedrick T. Thomas, mourned the loss of a great entertainer whose performances left indelible memories.
