Pope takes a break on the 10th day of hospital stay following signs of initial kidney failure identified.

ROME — On Monday morning, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis was resting after a peaceful night, marking the tenth day of his hospital stay due to a complicated lung infection that has led to the initial stages of kidney failure.

The brief statement from the Vatican did not clarify whether the 88-year-old pontiff was awake during the morning hours. It simply noted, “The night passed well, the pope slept and is resting.”

Doctors provided an update late on Sunday, revealing that laboratory results indicated early signs of kidney failure; however, they confirmed that the condition was manageable. Although the Pope remains in a critical state, medical staff stated that he had not faced any additional respiratory issues since Saturday.
