Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Russell Wilson Experiencing Calf Tightness Ahead of Week 1 Match in Atlanta

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson is once again dealing with calf tightness, raising doubts about his availability for Sunday’s season opener against the Atlanta Falcons. Head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that Wilson was limited in practice on Thursday, with the 35-year-old experiencing a tweak in the same calf that he had been nursing during a significant part of training camp.

Wilson, who was chosen as the starting quarterback over Justin Fields, aims to revitalize his career after being released by Denver earlier this year. Despite Tomlin expressing confidence that Wilson’s injury isn’t a long-term concern, his status for the upcoming game remains uncertain.

The Steelers have shown confidence in Fields throughout the summer, with his progress influencing Tomlin’s decision to delay naming Wilson the starter until after the preseason. Offensive coordinator Arthur Smith refrained from providing specifics on the potential playing time for Fields if Wilson is unable to play.

Wilson’s recurring calf issue may have already answered the question regarding Field’s involvement in the upcoming game. The team continues to monitor Wilson’s condition as they prepare for their first game of the season against the Falcons.
