Oklahoma State Football Team to Sport QR Codes on Helmets for NIL Fundraising

Oklahoma State University’s football team will debut a new initiative this season by wearing QR codes on their helmets. These QR codes will link to the team’s general fund to enhance the program’s name, image, and likeness (NIL) revenue potential. The unveiling of this innovative approach will take place during the season opener against South Dakota State on August 31. Oklahoma State aims to be the first college football team to display QR codes on helmets during regular-season games.

Head coach Mike Gundy expressed his enthusiasm for this groundbreaking step, stating that it will help position Oklahoma State football at the forefront of NIL opportunities. The QR codes, which will be 1.5-inch decals featuring each player’s name and number, will not be easily visible from the stands. However, they are designed to be prominent in close-up shots during broadcasts and in postgame photos shared on social media platforms.

In addition to the helmets, the QR codes will also be featured on the players’ bag tags. These tags are carried by the players during “The Walk,” the traditional pregame entrance at Boone Pickens Stadium, as well as during team travel. Oklahoma State, currently ranked No. 17 in the AP Top 25 college football poll, is poised to utilize this creative strategy to engage fans worldwide and bolster support for their players’ NIL endeavors.
