Obstacles lead to Olympic victory for the USA and breakthrough medal for France in track

Masai Russell from the United States secured a tight victory in the women’s 100-meter hurdles at the Olympic track meet, prevailing in a photo finish with a time of 12.33 seconds. The race was incredibly close, and Russell had to wait anxiously for 15 seconds to confirm her win by just a narrow margin of .01 over French athlete Cyrena Samba-Mayela, who claimed the silver medal – the first medal of any color for France in the event.
Defending champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, representing Puerto Rico, finished closely behind, securing the bronze medal just .02 seconds after Samba-Mayela. The crowd erupted in cheers for Samba-Mayela, as her achievement ended France’s medal drought on the final day of competition at the Stade de France.
