HOUSTON — Houston Astros’ shortstop Jeremy Peña was not listed in the lineup for a second consecutive game on Sunday. He is, however, making progress after exiting Friday’s matchup against the Chicago Cubs due to soreness in his ribs, as shared by Joe Espada, the team’s manager. Peña was struck in the ribs by a pitch from pitcher Cade Horton during the second inning of Friday’s 7-4 win for the Astros. Subsequent imaging conducted on Friday showed no fractures, and Peña has been able to practice his swings over the past two days.

“It’s still quite sore, so there’s no reason to rush his return,” Espada explained.

Following a day of rest on Monday, the Astros are scheduled to commence a series in Colorado starting Tuesday.

So far, Peña has participated in the first 82 games of the season, maintaining an impressive batting average of .322 with 11 home runs and 40 RBIs.
