SPIELBERG, Austria — The Austrian Grand Prix will continue as a key fixture on the Formula 1 calendar until 2041, following the announcement of a significant contract extension on Sunday for the race at the Red Bull Ring. The race in Austria had already cemented its place on the calendar with a contract stretching to 2030, which was agreed upon two years prior. This new extension positions it as one of only two F1 events, alongside the Miami Grand Prix, to secure commitments into the 2040s.

The Grand Prix in Austria holds a special connection with the Red Bull brand in the world of Formula 1. Red Bull’s late co-founder, Dietrich Mateschitz, who passed away in 2022, played a pivotal role by financing the renovation that brought the race back in 2014 after being absent for 11 years. This circuit is known today as the Red Bull Ring.

Mark Mateschitz, son of the late co-founder, expressed his enthusiasm in a statement released Sunday, saying, “I am delighted that Formula 1 will remain at the Red Bull Ring for many years to come. Continuing my father’s legacy and maintaining the esteemed history of motor racing in Styria and at the Red Bull Ring—with a focus on the local community—is a source of pride for me. The deep-rooted relationship between Austria and Formula 1 is the ideal foundation for our enduring partnership. We are committed to fostering this success story well into the future.”

This reflects a broader initiative in Formula 1 to create enduring partnerships, as evidenced by long-term contracts with certain circuits. Recently, the Canadian Grand Prix extended its arrangement to 2035, while Miami secured its position through 2041. Several other Grands Prix have similar lengthy commitments, including Bahrain, which signed an agreement in 2022 that lasts until 2036, and the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, which keeps its spot until 2037.
