In Frisco, Texas, San Diego FC secured a thrilling comeback victory against FC Dallas, clinching a 3-2 win on Saturday night. Francisco’s Western Conference leaders in Major League Soccer owe their victory to late heroics from Tomás Ángel, who netted the decisive goal deep into second-half stoppage time.
Ángel, introduced as a substitute in the second half, found the back of the net with a precise right-footed strike from the center of the box, sending the ball to the upper left corner. The crucial play was set up by Anders Dreyer, with an additional contribution from Jasper Löffelsend.
Despite trailing 2-1 early in the second half, expansion team San Diego maintained their composure and leveled the match in the 77th minute. Hirving Lozano played a pivotal role, scoring with a left-footed attempt from the center of the box, directing the ball to the bottom center of the goal. Milan Iloski provided the assist, with a secondary assist recorded by Dreyer.
Dreyer had an outstanding performance throughout the match, contributing a goal and two assists. He opened the scoring in the 26th minute by converting a penalty, placing San Diego ahead.
FC Dallas responded with vigor, equalizing in the 44th minute through Petar Musa’s right-footed shot from the center of the box, targeting the bottom right corner. The momentum continued for Dallas when Sebastian Lletget propelled them into a 2-1 lead in the 56th minute with a left-footed finish from the center of the box.
However, Dallas struggled to maintain their offensive pressure, managing only two more shot attempts during the remainder of the match. Among them was Petar Musa’s ill-fated header in the third minute of stoppage time, which sailed over the crossbar.
On the defensive end, CJ dos Santos stood firm for San Diego, making four crucial saves. Significantly, San Diego exhibited exceptional attacking efficiency, scoring on all three shots on target against Maarten Paes of Dallas, who stands at 21 points with a record of 5-8-6.
Looking ahead, FC Dallas is set to welcome Minnesota for a home clash on Friday. Meanwhile, San Diego is scheduled to host Houston on Saturday as they continue their campaign.
