FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — In a captivating showdown, the New England Revolution clawed their way back from a 3-0 deficit to earn a thrilling 3-3 draw against the Colorado Rapids, thanks to Maxi Urruti’s dramatic header in the third minute of stoppage time.
Urruti executed a perfect header from the center of the box into the upper left central area, culminating a strategic play initiated by Tanner Beason’s precise pass. This crucial goal was the final act in New England’s remarkable comeback.
Trailing 3-0 in the second half, New England’s fightback began with an unfortunate own goal scored by Colorado. This was followed by Carles Gil’s penalty kick success in the 86th minute, which set the stage for Urruti’s equalizer.
Colorado, initially in control, closed the first half with a comfortable 2-0 lead. The opening goal came at the 29-minute mark when Calvin Harris capitalized on a rebound opportunity, following Aljaz Ivacic’s save on Ted Ku-Dipietro’s attempt. Just before the break, Navarro enhanced their lead, sending a well-placed shot past Ivacic into the lower right corner.
The Rapids extended their advantage to 3-0 at the 55th minute, courtesy of Ted Ku-Dipietro’s powerful right-foot finish from outside the box, finding its way into the bottom left corner.
New England was able to reduce the deficit when Colorado’s own goal occurred in the 58th minute, as Sam Vines inadvertently diverted Gil’s shot into his net.
The dynamic Carles Gil continued the Revolution’s resurgence by calmly converting a penalty with a precise left-foot strike to the bottom right corner, drawing New England closer.
In goal, Colorado’s Nico Hansen delivered a valiant effort with eight saves, while Aljaz Ivacic recorded one save for New England.
Looking forward, Colorado is set to host Sporting Kansas City on Friday, while New England will pay a visit to Portland on Saturday.
