MONTREAL — In an intense matchup on Saturday night, Victor Loturi clinched a victory for Montreal with a decisive goal in the 23rd minute, defeating New York City FC 1-0. This marked Montreal’s inaugural home victory this season after nine attempts.

The triumph was especially sweet for Montreal (3-12-5) as they completed a season sweep over New York (8-7-4) for the first time in their history. Loturi’s goal came after a crucial play where Dante Sealy, isolated with a defender, unleashed a forceful shot from the right edge of the 18-yard box. This effort led to a rebound that Loturi seized, scoring with a swift one-touch finish, marking his debut goal for the team.

Throughout the match, Montreal had opportunities to extend their lead. In the second half, Luca Petrasso found himself unguarded in front of the goal following a corner, but was unable to manage the ball’s tricky bounce. Furthermore, Jules-Anthony Vilsaint’s attempt was thwarted by Tomas Romero’s exceptional fingertip save.

Goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois was instrumental in sealing the victory, securing his fourth clean sheet of the season with a solid defensive performance. Looking ahead, Montreal is set to take on Inter Miami on July 5, contingent on the Florida team’s status in the Club World Cup.
