HARRISON, N.J. — In a thrilling encounter at their home ground, the New York Red Bulls managed to secure a last-minute 2-2 draw against Minnesota United thanks to a crucial goal from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. The equalizer came in the 90th minute and was a result of a well-timed pass by teammate Kyle Duncan. Choupo-Moting expertly controlled the ball and executed a right-footed shot from the center of the box, ensuring a point for the home side.
The first breakthrough for the New York squad came from Emil Forsberg, who struck in the 11th minute following a chaotic sequence near the Minnesota goal. Rookie goalkeeper Wessel Speel, signed to a First Team contract only a day prior, attempted a clearance near the penalty area but stumbled, leaving the ball free. Forsberg seized the opportunity, collecting the loose ball just inside the box and delivering a precise shot into the lower right of the net. With this goal, Forsberg marked a personal milestone as the eighth player in club history to tally 25 goal contributions within his first 40 games.
Shortly after Forsberg’s goal, an unfortunate injury during the same play saw Speel leave the match, with Alec Smir stepping in as his replacement. Minnesota didn’t take long to pull level, with Kelvin Yeboah finding a gap between a defender’s legs in the 32nd minute, slotting the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal.
Minnesota took the lead just before halftime, courtesy of Anthony Markanich. His shot from the center of the box found its way to the upper right central area of the goal, giving the visitors a 2-1 advantage.
The Red Bulls, demonstrating strong form at their Sports Illustrated Stadium, remain undefeated in their last five home matches. During this stretch, they have impressively outscored opponents 16-4. This superb home performance has allowed New York to accumulate 23 points this season, pushing them ahead of Columbus for the most home points accumulated. Columbus is set to compete against Philadelphia in their upcoming home game.
Looking ahead, Minnesota United will travel to Dallas for their next fixture on Friday. Meanwhile, the New York Red Bulls are preparing for an away game against San Jose the following Saturday.
