WASHINGTON – Sam Surridge continued his impressive scoring streak by netting his 16th goal in the league via a penalty in the first half, helping Nashville SC maintain their unbeaten streak with a 1-0 win over D.C. United on Saturday night.
Surridge, who dazzled with a hat trick during a midweek 3-2 victory against the New England Revolution, found the back of the net in the 18th minute. This goal ensured his sixth consecutive match with a goal, setting a new club record previously held by Hany Mukhtar with five straight matches in 2022. The penalty opportunity arose after Mukhtar was brought down by Lucas Bartlett.
Surridge’s performance has widened his lead in the race for the Golden Boot Award, holding a three-goal advantage over his closest competitor, Tai Baribo of the Philadelphia Union. Joe Willis, Nashville’s goalkeeper, was pivotal in securing the win, making one crucial save and earning his sixth clean sheet of the season. With the team currently at a run of 13 unbeaten matches, Nashville sits in third place in the Eastern Conference, closely trailing FC Cincinnati by one point and the Union by two points.
Meanwhile, D.C. United’s keeper, Luis Barraza, also recorded one save during the match. The saves by both goalkeepers occurred in the first half of an otherwise tight contest. D.C. United, having a challenging season with a 4-10-6 record, is preparing to host Atlanta United this coming Saturday.
Nashville SC looks to extend their impressive run when they welcome the Philadelphia Union and striker Baribo in their next fixture.
