SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — On Saturday, a tropical depression emerged in the Bay of Campeche, located off the southeast coast of Mexico. Meteorologists anticipate that it will develop into a tropical storm throughout the weekend.

At the time of observation, the depression was situated approximately 130 miles (210 kilometers) east of Veracruz, Mexico. It was noted to have maximum sustained winds of 30 mph (45 kph) and was moving in a west-northwest direction at a speed of 7 mph (11 kph).

In response, authorities have issued a tropical storm warning, extending from Boca de Catan southward to Tecolutla.

The National Hurricane Center projects that the depression will intensify into a tropical storm before it approaches and eventually reaches the Mexican coastline. It is expected to make landfall on Sunday night.

Additionally, significant rainfall is predicted across regions of Guatemala and southeast Mexico for several days, potentially leading to localized flooding and complicating recovery efforts.
