German authorities have pressed charges against an individual alleged to have aided a thwarted attempt to attack Taylor Swift’s concerts in Austria last year. The incident led to the cancellation of three of Swift’s performances in Vienna in early August, following which Austrian officials detained three individuals.

In Germany, a young Syrian identified as Mohammad A. in accordance with privacy regulations has been formally charged. Earlier this month, Berlin’s judicial system received the indictment, which details accusations of aiding a foreign terrorist group and preparing for a major violent act. The federal prosecutors’ statement reveals that the suspect supported the extremist views of the Islamic State group. Between mid-July and August of the previous year, he communicated with an Austrian individual who intended to carry out an assault at one of Taylor Swift’s concerts in Vienna.

Mohammad A. is alleged to have contributed by interpreting bomb-construction guidelines from Arabic and facilitating communication with an IS member overseas, along with other activities. Furthermore, the suspect purportedly provided his Austrian contact with a declaration of loyalty to IS, which was then utilized to join the organization.

The suspect remains at liberty, and the court is tasked with determining if and when the case will proceed to trial.
