Washington managed this feat without their lead scorer Brittney Sykes, who stayed out for the second consecutive game due to an injury in her lower right leg. Additionally, guard Jade Melbourne exited the game in the first quarter due to a facial injury and did not rejoin the contest.
Lucy Olsen provided significant support from the bench, contributing 14 points in 37 minutes of play for Washington (8-8). Adding to the team’s impressive performance, Shakira Austin secured a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Kiki Iriafen delivered a solid performance with 12 points and nine rebounds.
On the Las Vegas side (7-8), A’ja Wilson led with 22 points. Chelsea Gray and Jackie Young each added 13 points, with Jewell Loyd contributing 11 points.
Washington took control of the game in the third quarter, beginning with a 9-0 run that elevated their lead to 62-44. The lead extended to 22 points at 79-57 with a 3-pointer from Sutton during the same period.
The Aces showed resilience, scoring the first nine points in the fourth quarter and reducing the gap to 79-70. They narrowed the difference to seven points twice, the last at 87-80 before Austin’s crucial offensive rebound and subsequent basket with 1:31 remaining.
Notably, Washington excelled from the 3-point line, nailing 10 of 19 attempts, with Citron, Sutton, and Olsen each contributing three successful shots. In contrast, the Aces succeeded in only 6 of their 23 attempts from beyond the arc.
