DENVER — In a significant organizational shift, the Colorado Rockies have elevated Walker Monfort, the eldest son of team owner Dick Monfort, to a top executive role amidst a challenging season start.

The announcement was made on Thursday, introducing Walker Monfort as the executive vice president who will co-lead the team with current President and COO Greg Feasel. However, Feasel plans to step down at the end of the year after dedicating three decades to the Rockies’ front office.

The Rockies entered Thursday’s home game versus the Los Angeles Dodgers holding an 18-62 record, marking the midpoint of their regular season as they played their 81st game.

At 38, Walker Monfort, who has served as the vice president of corporate partnerships since 2015, is set to take on Feasel’s duties by January, the team confirmed.

Greg Feasel’s journey with the Rockies began in 1995 in the role of vice president of sales and marketing. By 2010, he rose to executive vice president and chief operating officer, eventually becoming club president in April 2021.

“Greg has been a cornerstone for this team since its formative years,” stated Rockies owner Dick Monfort. “His leadership and foresight have not only shaped the Rockies organization but also left a mark on the broader baseball community in the Rocky Mountain area. His steady presence over the past three decades has been invaluable to our numerous achievements.”

Expressing mixed feelings, Feasel acknowledged the bittersweet nature of his departure but noted this transition had been in discussion with the team owner for several years.

Beginning his trajectory with the Rockies at an entry-level position, Walker Monfort immersed himself in various departments from 2006 to 2009, gaining a wide range of experience. His assignments spanned the grounds crew, gameday promotions, ticketing, and the visiting clubhouse. Joining the front office in a more permanent role in late 2009, he was involved in minor league operations and player development until 2013.

As the Rockies commend Greg for his substantial influence and dedication, the franchise looks forward to a new era under Walker’s guidance. “Walker provides a deep internal insight accumulated over his 20 years within our operations. He offers innovative and progressive thinking, and we are assured that his vision, expertise, and leadership will guide the club effectively in the foreseeable future,” Dick Monfort affirmed.
