LIVERPOOL, England — Liverpool has made a significant addition to their squad by signing Hungarian left back Milos Kerkez on a long-term deal, reportedly worth 40 million pounds ($54 million), from Bournemouth. This move follows the recent acquisitions of Germany midfielder Florian Wirtz and Netherlands right back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.
The young defender, expressing his enthusiasm, stated, “I’m really happy. It’s a real honour for me, a privilege to come to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, the biggest club in England. I’m just really, really happy and excited.” Kerkez’s arrival is likely to prompt speculation about the future of Andy Robertson, Liverpool’s 31-year-old Scottish left back, who has been rumored to be a target for Atletico Madrid.
Milos Kerkez has shown promise, having made 38 appearances in the Premier League for Bournemouth last season, which culminated in the team securing ninth place with a club-record tally of 56 points. During his stint, Kerkez managed to score twice and provided six assists. Additionally, he has earned 23 caps for the Hungarian national team.
Richard Hughes, Liverpool’s sporting director, is familiar with Kerkez, considering he previously held the position of Bournemouth’s technical director before his transition to Anfield a year ago. Liverpool enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the club’s upcoming appearance in the Community Shield on August 10 at Wembley Stadium, where they will face Crystal Palace, the winners of the FA Cup.
