Wolverhampton, England — Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers has successfully secured the services of Fer Lopez, an attacking midfielder from Spain’s La Liga club Celta Vigo. The youngster has committed to a five-year contract with the English side, as announced by the club this Friday.
This acquisition marks the first signing for Wolverhampton during the current summer transfer window. Fer Lopez follows in the footsteps of striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, who also made the move from Celta Vigo to the English Midlands last season.
The club reportedly agreed upon a transfer fee of 19.5 million pounds (approximating to $26 million) to bring the 21-year-old to the Premier League.
During his tenure at Celta Vigo, Lopez marked his presence with 20 appearances since his senior team debut in October, netting four goals and contributing to the team’s respectable seventh-place finish in La Liga.
This signing represents a return to English soil for Lopez, who had previously spent a brief period studying in Stowmarket, Suffolk, at the age of 15.
Upon his signing, Lopez expressed, “It’s an amazing opportunity for my career to play in the Premier League, and I’m very happy. The club and manager Vitor Pereira conveyed to me that they believe I am a suitable addition to the squad.”
