FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. — Tragedy struck at Fort Campbell when a helicopter training incident resulted in the death of one soldier and injured another, as reported by military authorities on Thursday.
The event took place around 7 p.m. Wednesday within the Fort Campbell training zone, according to a statement released by the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). Emergency services arrived promptly at the scene. Sadly, one soldier was declared deceased, while the other injured member was taken to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital where their condition was deemed stable.
The identities of the soldiers involved have been kept confidential, pending the completion of notifications to their families, which will occur after a 24-hour period. At present, the circumstances surrounding the incident are being scrutinized through an ongoing investigation.
In reflection of the past, the wider community may recall a devastating event in March 2023, when two HH-60 Black Hawk helicopters from the same division collided during a nighttime training exercise about 30 miles northwest of Fort Campbell. That collision led to the loss of nine soldiers.
Fort Campbell, an Army post known for its strategic location, straddles the border between Kentucky and Tennessee. The post is home to the storied 101st Airborne Division, renowned for its readiness and rapid deployment capabilities.
