TULLAHOMA, Tenn. — On Sunday, an incident involving a skydiving plane resulted in several injuries after the aircraft crashed near a small airport in Tennessee, as reported by local officials.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the aircraft involved was a de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter. It was carrying 20 individuals when it crashed shortly after takeoff from Tullahoma Regional Airport.
City Administrator Jason Quick explained in a briefing on Sunday evening that the plane encountered an unspecified issue right after takeoff, leading it to crash into a nearby wooded area. Emergency services responded promptly, with three individuals being airlifted by helicopter to a Nashville area hospital for treatment. Four others were transported to a local hospital by ambulance. Medics handled minor injuries on-site for the remaining individuals.
The FAA was actively gathering testimonies in Tullahoma, speaking with both the passengers involved and any potential witnesses to ascertain the facts surrounding the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board will now spearhead the ongoing investigation into the cause of the incident.
