PARIS — Seasoned tennis professionals Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos emerged victorious in the French Open doubles final on Saturday, achieving their first major title as a team at the combined age of 79.
Granollers, hailing from Spain and aged 39, alongside his 40-year-old Argentine partner, triumphed in their fourth Grand Slam final as a duo, marking their debut victory at the renowned clay-court tournament. The duo clinched the title by overwhelming the British pair Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski with scores of 6-0, 6-7 (5), 7-5.
Entering the Paris competition as the fifth seeds, Granollers and Zeballos have previously been Grand Slam finalists, finishing as runners-up at the U.S. Open in 2019 and at Wimbledon in both 2021 and 2023.
Representing Britain, Salisbury and Skupski made history as the first all-British team to advance to a Grand Slam men’s doubles final during the Open era.
