SAN FRANCISCO – In a tightly contested matchup, Jose Iglesias stepped up for the San Diego Padres with a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning that ended a scoreless affair, leading to a 1-0 win over the San Francisco Giants on Monday night. The decisive play allowed automatic runner Jake Cronenworth to reach home, providing the lone run of the game.

The Padres initiated their 10th inning charge when Tyler Wade laid down a crucial sacrifice bunt against Giants pitcher Ryan Walker, who suffered the loss and now stands at 1-3 this season.

Robert Suarez was instrumental in maintaining the shutout for San Diego, pitching a critical ninth inning. Despite giving up a lead-off single to Patrick Bailey, Suarez held firm and secured the win, improving his record to 1-1.

Giants pitcher Logan Webb delivered an impressive performance by striking out seven batters without issuing any walks over eight scoreless innings. However, Webb’s effort was overshadowed by San Francisco’s failure to capitalize on scoring opportunities, leaving the team without a victory to show for his skillful outing.

During the intense contest, Jeremiah Estrada took the mound for the Padres in the seventh inning with a runner already on base and two outs. Estrada encountered some trouble, issuing a walk to Tyler Fitzgerald. Following a strategic visit to the mound, Heliot Ramos also drew a walk, loading the bases. Fortunately for San Diego, Jung Hoo Lee struck out swinging on just three pitches, ending the Giants’ threat.

Stephen Kolek was on the mound for San Francisco in his sixth start in the major leagues. He managed to make it to the sixth inning, successfully navigating past pinch-hitter Jerar Encarnacion’s groundout. Encarnacion was recently reinstated from the 60-day injured list after recovering from a spring training hand fracture that required surgical intervention.

Despite hitting a rough patch, Manny Machado extended his challenges by going hitless in Monday’s game, marking only the seventh time this has occurred in his last 28 outings. The Padres are in the midst of a demanding stretch, playing 26 games over 27 days through June 25, focusing solely on their National League West rivals.

A pivotal moment emerged in the second inning when Webb and catcher Patrick Bailey executed a spectacular inning-ending double play. Jake Cronenworth was caught attempting to steal second after Wade struck out swinging. Bailey’s pinpoint throw to shortstop Willy Adames sealed the play.

Further frustration for San Francisco came after they grounded into successive double plays to thwart scoring chances in the subsequent innings.

Notably, both starting pitchers faced challenges from pitched batters early on. Giants’ Wilmer Flores was visibly distressed after taking a hard pitch off his left elbow in the third inning. As Flores expressed his discontent, Padres catcher Elias Díaz intervened to help calm the storm addressing the intense atmosphere.

Looking ahead, the Padres will field right-hander Ryan Bergert, who carries a flawless 1-0 record with a 0.00 ERA, against the Giants’ right-hander Landen Roupp, who has a 3-4 record and a 3.54 ERA.
