CHICAGO — The Chicago Blackhawks have welcomed Mike Vellucci as a new addition to their coaching staff, led by Jeff Blashill. The team announced Vellucci’s appointment on Monday. He will be collaborating with Michael Peca and Anders Sorensen, who are already serving as assistants under Blashill. The coaching team is further supported by Goaltending Coach Jimmy Waite, Video Coach Matt Meacham, and Assistant Video Coach Adam Gill.

Vellucci, who is 58 years old, previously dedicated five seasons to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He has also amassed experience as an Assistant General Manager and Director of Hockey Operations during his tenure with the Carolina Hurricanes from 2014 to 2019. Notably, Vellucci contributed as an assistant coach for the U.S. national team, which recently secured victory at the world championship. Among its ranks were Blackhawks players Frank Nazar and Alex Vlasic, who played instrumental roles in the triumph.

Expressing enthusiasm for Vellucci’s addition, Blashill remarked, “Having served as an assistant coach at the world championship this summer and leading our country to a gold medal alongside Frank Nazar and Alex Vlasic, Mike brings invaluable experience to our team. His championship-caliber background enhances our capabilities, and I am eager to begin collaborating.”

Last month marked a new chapter for Blashill as he assumed his role as head coach for the Chicago Blackhawks. His recent professional journey includes three years assisting Jon Cooper with the Tampa Bay Lightning, bringing further depth and insight to his leadership in Chicago.
