PARIS — Top-seeded Jannik Sinner continued his impressive run at the French Open with a convincing 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 win over 17th seed Andrey Rublev on Monday night. This victory secured Sinner a spot in the quarterfinals and pushed his Grand Slam match-winning streak to an impressive 18 matches.
Sinner, a three-time Grand Slam champion, claimed the U.S. Open title last September and the Australian Open just this January. His next challenge is to advance to the semifinals at Roland-Garros for the second consecutive time, facing the 62nd-ranked Alexander Bublik on Wednesday.
The level at which Sinner has performed in Paris has been outstanding; he hasn’t lost a single set and has conceded merely 30 games throughout the tournament.
In the match against Rublev, Sinner started slightly sluggishly under the lights at Court Philippe-Chatrier. For the first four points, anyway. Rublev managed to secure two break points at 15-40 during the opening game, but Sinner quickly regained his composure and dominated from there onward.
Sinner faced only one additional break point for the remainder of the match, which he also overcame with ease. He closed the first set having delivered 10 winners against just three unforced errors, continuously pressing Rublev as the match progressed.
