SALT LAKE CITY — Austin Ainge has been named Utah Jazz’s president of basketball operations, marking a new chapter in his seasoned career that closely follows his father’s footsteps, Danny Ainge. Ainge, who previously stood out as a player at BYU like his father, brings years of executive experience from his lengthy tenure with the Boston Celtics.
Austin dedicated 17 years to the Celtics organization, with his last six years spent as the assistant general manager. His father, Danny, a celebrated former player for the Celtics and their long-time executive director of basketball operations, joined the Jazz after his Boston tenure.
In a statement reflecting his dedication to the sport, Austin shared, “I have lived this my whole life, constantly studying teams, talent, chemistry, and the selflessness necessary to win.” His new role with the Jazz holds the promise of infusing fresh energy and strategy to elevate the team’s performance. “I look forward to bringing that to Utah and am excited to give Jazz fans a lot to cheer about as we build our program back up,” he added, signaling a focus on fostering team success and community enthusiasm.
