SAN DIEGO — During Sunday’s face-off between the San Diego Padres and the Pittsburgh Pirates, Padres left fielder Gavin Sheets had to exit the game after a dramatic encounter with the outfield wall. Sheets was tracking a powerful opposite-field home run by Adam Frazier in the fourth inning when the incident occurred.

While attempting to catch the ball, Sheets took a momentary glance at the proximity of the wall before focusing back on the ball. Unfortunately, he collided face-first with the padding just as the ball narrowly cleared the top of the wall. This resulted in a home run for Pittsburgh, extending their lead to 4-1.

Following the collision, Sheets remained on the field for a few minutes as the team’s trainer attended to him. Despite the hard hit, the outfielder managed to walk off the field without assistance. He was subsequently replaced by Brandon Lockridge for the remainder of the game.
