ARLINGTON, Texas — Adolis García, a key player for the Texas Rangers, has been absent from the lineup for three successive games. The team’s president, Chris Young, explained that the decision aims to help the 2023 ALCS MVP refine certain aspects of his performance. Young expressed confidence that these adjustments could restore him to his peak form from last season, contributing significantly to the team’s success.
Without García, the Rangers managed to secure two wins out of their three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Texas saw a resurgence in their offensive play with an 11-1 victory on Friday, and they clinched the series with a robust eighth-inning push on Sunday. This marked their first series win since their dominant performance against Colorado in mid-May.
García has been facing a difficult spell, batting just .155 over the last 20 matches and tallying 25 strikeouts. Despite his struggles, he holds a .207 average this season, with seven home runs and a team-leading 27 RBIs. Over the past four years, he has maintained an impressive record, ranking 14th in the majors with 122 home runs.
Throughout this season, García has been a consistent figure for the Rangers, starting in 55 of 60 games. Apart from his current hiatus, he’s only missed one other game, with manager Bruce Bochy noting that the break is intended to give García a mental pause. García himself acknowledged that the temporary absence allows him to work on improvements without the immediate pressure of game performance.
At 32 years old, García is nearing the end of his current two-year contract. The upcoming return of Evan Carter, alongside Wyatt Langford, Alejandro Osuna, and Sam Haggerty, promises to intensify competition among the Rangers’ outfielders as García aims to reclaim his place.
Chris Young reiterated that future lineup decisions will be based on player performance. In addition to addressing García’s situation, the Rangers announced several roster changes before Sunday’s matchup. Nathan Eovaldi, suffering from triceps fatigue, was moved to the 15-day injured list retroactive to last Thursday. Additionally, catcher Tucker Barnhart was designated for assignment, and right-handed pitcher Codi Heuer was elevated from the Triple-A Round Rock to the major league roster.
