In a courtroom on Friday, a judge dismissed a request for a temporary restraining order against a Maui-based anesthesiologist accused of trying to kill his wife on a hiking trail in Honolulu.
The wife of Gerhardt Konig initiated the legal action after incidents allegedly occurred during which Konig attempted to push her off a cliff, tried injecting her with a syringe, and struck her head with a rock. Despite these serious accusations, her attorney, Brandon Segal, expressed before the judge that a restraining order was presently unnecessary due to Konig being detained without bail as he faces criminal proceedings. Segal noted that his client reserves the right to submit the petition again should Konig’s detention status change.
The dismissal was formally granted by Second Circuit Court Judge Bevanne J. Bowers in Maui, following no opposition from Konig’s attorney. Gerhardt Konig had entered a not guilty plea regarding an attempted murder charge earlier in April and has been incarcerated without bail since his indictment on March 28.
Prosecutors have outlined that Konig and his wife were in Oahu, stepping away from their Maui home to enjoy her birthday when the alleged attack took place on the trail. Within the filed petition, Konig’s wife detailed accusations from December, where Konig had accused her of being unfaithful. The couple had reportedly sought therapy and counseling as part of addressing their marital issues. Additionally, she accused him of past sexual abuse and physical assault.
