NEW YORK — Forward Nicolas Roy from the Vegas Golden Knights received a financial penalty but avoided suspension on Friday for an incident involving a cross-check against Trent Frederic of the Edmonton Oilers during the second-round playoff series.

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety issued a fine amounting to $7,813, which is the highest possible under the current collective bargaining agreement. This decision came after a disciplinary hearing with Roy. The player was previously ejected with a five-minute match penalty following the two-handed stick incident involving Frederic, which occurred 5 1/2 minutes into overtime on Thursday night.

Following this play, the Oilers were unable to capitalize on the power play advantage given to them. However, they managed to secure a win shortly after with Leon Draisaitl scoring a pivotal goal assisted by Connor McDavid. The Vegas Golden Knights are now trailing the series 2-0, with Game 3 set to occur Saturday night in Edmonton.
