RALEIGH, N.C. — The Carolina Hurricanes have secured goaltender Frederik Andersen for another year, signing a contract that will see him earn $2.75 million next season. The announcement came from General Manager Eric Tulsky on Saturday, just over two days prior to the Hurricanes commencing their second-round playoff series against Washington.

Andersen’s contract also includes performance-based incentives that could net him an additional $750,000. These incentives are tied to the number of games he plays and his role in potentially taking the Hurricanes to the Eastern Conference finals next year. Specifically, Andersen can earn $250,000 if he plays at least 35 games, another $250,000 should he reach 40 games, and a further $250,000 if the team reaches the conference finals with him participating in at least half of the games.

“Frederik has shown exceptional skill for us and holds a spot among the top 10 NHL goalies in terms of winning percentage,” said Tulsky. “We’re thrilled to have him remain with us for the upcoming season.”

This extension is poised to provide the Hurricanes with a solid goaltending pair, alongside Pyotr Kochetkov, collectively costing them less than $6 million.

Andersen, now 35, hails from Denmark and has previously played for the Anaheim Ducks and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He has established himself as head coach Rod Brind’Amour’s go-to choice for goaltending and is expected to return to the starting position for the first game against the Capitals, following an injury he sustained during the initial round against New Jersey.
