A man behind the wheel of a stolen Porsche was fatally shot by police during a pursuit in Brooklyn, as reported by the New York Police Department. The incident occurred on Tuesday night when officers identified the 28-year-old’s vehicle as suspicious on the Belt Parkway at around 8 p.m.

According to NYPD Chief of Department John Chell, the vehicle’s registration was checked and it was found to be a stolen car from Pennsylvania. Pursuing officers attempted to stop the car, prompting the suspect to leave and then re-enter the parkway in an effort to escape.

Chell explained that when police tried another intervention, the suspect veered the Porsche onto a service road where officers had established a roadblock. In a tense moment, the car came dangerously close to an officer, nearly striking him. As a result, an officer discharged his weapon, hitting the driver. Despite being shot, the vehicle continued on and collided with another police vehicle.

A passenger in the car was taken into custody while officers rendered first aid to the driver. The wounded driver was transported to a hospital but was pronounced dead there.

It was revealed that the driver had a criminal background, being on federal probation for the interstate transportation of stolen vehicles stemming from Pennsylvania. At the time, no further details about the driver were made available.
