MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Twins will be without rookie infielder Luke Keaschall for a period, as he is set to go on the injured list due to a nondisplaced fracture in his right forearm. The injury occurred when Keaschall was struck by a pitch during Friday’s 11-4 win against the Los Angeles Angels.
Keaschall, who took his place as the designated hitter, was hit by a pitch thrown by Kyle Hendricks in the first inning. Despite the injury, he initially continued playing, remaining on the bases. However, when it was his turn at bat in the third inning, Mickey Gasper took his place.
Reflecting on the incident, Keaschall shared, “Honestly, I thought I was fine. I got hit, was running the bases, and I thought, ‘It’s just going to be a little sore. I’ll be good.’ But it became apparent that this wasn’t the case.”
Since making his major league debut on April 18, Keaschall has already proven himself to be an asset to the Twins, having earned a consistent spot in the lineup. In the last four games, manager Rocco Baldelli positioned him as the third batter due to his impressive performance.
Over his initial six games with Minnesota, Keaschall maintained a .368 batting average, securing seven hits in 19 at-bats, including three doubles, and adding five stolen bases to his record.
“He’s fitting in exceptionally well and has been really beneficial for us,” Baldelli commented. “He’ll get sorted out and will return before long. I’m confident he’ll be back on the field soon. It’s unfortunate news, but he’ll pull through.”
The Twins have yet to provide a specific recovery timeline for Keaschall’s injury.
