Trinity Rodman is currently stepping away from her duties with the Washington Spirit as she addresses ongoing back issues, according to an announcement by the National Women’s Soccer League team.
The forward, who is also a member of the U.S. women’s national team, will remain on the sidelines for an indefinite period. The news of Rodman’s leave was initially reported by The Washington Post.
The Washington Spirit expressed their support, saying, “We look forward to her returning when she’s healthy.”
Rodman earned a gold medal with Team USA at the Paris Olympics last summer. Not long ago, she suffered an injury in a game against the Kansas City Current last September.
Nevertheless, she made her comeback to the national team earlier this month and contributed by scoring in their 2-0 win against Brazil. She also participated in the Spirit’s recent 2-0 victory over Racing Louisville, bringing her appearances to four games this season.
Following the Spirit’s 1-0 away win against the Orlando Pride on Saturday, head coach Jonatan Giráldez noted that his primary focus was the game.
“Being honest right now, it’s too soon to speak about that. Today I was focused on the game,” he explained. “In the next days, I will have more information, and I will be able to share with all of you.”
Last month, Rodman discussed her condition with reporters, explaining that the issue is not so much an injury but rather the structure of her back.
“I don’t think my back will ever be the way it was my rookie year, which is unfortunate,” she remarked.
