Russell Wilson has come to an agreement on a one-year contract with the New York Giants, according to a source familiar with the situation.
The source, requesting anonymity due to the fact that the signing has not been formally concluded, shared on Tuesday that Wilson’s contract could earn him up to $21 million, with $10.5 million being guaranteed.
Last week, the Giants also added veteran quarterback Jameis Winston by bringing him onboard with a two-year contract. The team has the third pick in the upcoming NFL draft, following a challenging season where they finished with a 3-14 record in 2024 and released Daniel Jones, their 2019 first-round pick, partway through the season. Before Winston and Wilson’s arrival, Tommy DeVito was the sole quarterback on the Giants’ roster.
The Giants have found themselves on the outside of the playoffs for 11 of the last 13 seasons since Eli Manning led them to a Super Bowl victory in the 2011 season. The pressure is mounting for general manager Joe Schoen and coach Brian Daboll to swiftly deliver victories while considering the development of a potential rookie quarterback.
Regarding their No. 3 overall pick, the Giants may choose Shedeur Sanders. With Wilson and Winston serving as seasoned leaders, Sanders could potentially transition into a starting position by the 2026 season if selected by New York.
Russell Wilson, at 36 years old and a 10-time Pro Bowl selection, will be joining his fourth team in five years. Last season, he contributed to the Pittsburgh Steelers reaching the playoffs, although they concluded the season with a five-game losing streak after a promising 6-1 start when Wilson was at the helm.
While playing for the Steelers, Wilson achieved 2,482 passing yards, recorded 16 touchdowns, only five interceptions, and earned a passer rating of 96.5. His stint with the Denver Broncos in 2023 ended after two lackluster seasons, despite him tallying 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a passer rating of 98 with the Broncos.
During his 10 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, Wilson consistently delivered strong performances, averaging 3,706 yards, 29 touchdowns, and a solid passer rating of 101.8. He was instrumental in leading the Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory and narrowly missing a second.
Across 199 career starts in the regular season, Wilson boasts a record of 121-77-1, and 9-8 in the postseason. His career stats include 46,135 passing yards, 350 touchdowns, 111 interceptions, and a career passer rating of 99.8. Additionally, Wilson has showcased his mobility with 5,462 rushing yards and 31 rushing touchdowns.
