KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City Royals have announced the acquisition of Mark Canha, an experienced outfielder from the Milwaukee Brewers. The Royals will send either a player to be named later or a cash consideration to the Brewers in exchange for the 36-year-old Canha.
Mark Canha, who is also capable of playing first base, was on a minor league contract with the Brewers. As part of his agreement, he had the option to opt out as of Saturday. Canha has managed two hits in 23 at-bats, including a homerun, during the spring season.
Canha’s major league journey began in 2015 when he made his debut with Oakland. Over the course of his career, he has spent seven seasons wearing the A’s uniform. His professional path has also led him through the rosters of the New York Mets, Detroit Tigers, and San Francisco Giants. Canha maintains a career batting average of .249 and has lined up 120 homers, with 2019 being his standout year when he hit a career-high of 26 home runs for the A’s.
In the 2024 season, Canha split his time between Detroit and San Francisco, appearing in a total of 125 games. During that time, he posted a .242 batting average along with seven homeruns.
This new move could bring added depth and versatility to the Royals’ lineup as they look to enhance their roster.
