LAS PALMAS, Spain — In a dramatic match on Friday, Las Palmas successfully secured a 2-2 draw against Alaves at home, courtesy of two late goals, securing a crucial point as they battle against relegation from La Liga.
Alaves seized the advantage just six minutes into the game when Toni Martínez broke free from Las Palmas’ defense and smashed in a volley with precision.
As the match progressed, substitute Jon Guridi widened Alaves’ lead in the 62nd minute. He capitalized on a precise pass from Asier Villalibre, managing to slip past the goalkeeper and ease the ball into the net.
However, the match took a dramatic turn when Fábio Silva, on loan from Wolves, converted a penalty in the 89th minute, breathing life back into Las Palmas. Just moments later, Alberto Moleiro struck with an impressive volley in added time, ensuring the host team a share of the spoils.
This result marks Las Palmas’ 10th consecutive league match without victory. While the team can celebrate salvaging a point after trailing for most of the game, the inability to secure a win against a fellow relegation-threatened opponent remains a significant concern for coach Diego Martinez.
“Although we needed the win, pulling back from a 2-0 deficit in such a frantic game shows our determination and belief,” said Martinez. “This point is crucial for our survival hopes.”
Despite the rally, Las Palmas stands second from last in the league, trailing two points behind Leganes, Valencia, and Alaves. With Valladolid anchored nine points adrift at the bottom, the battle to avoid one of the remaining relegation spots continues to intensify.
