FRANKFURT, Germany — In preparation for the Nations League quarterfinal against Italy, Germany is seeking insights from within the local scene. Coach Julian Nagelsmann has added Inter Milan defender Yann Bisseck to the senior team for the first time. Bisseck, who is familiar with the San Siro, where Italy will host Germany for the first leg on March 20, is expected to bring valuable experience to the squad.

Bisseck has been performing strongly for Inter this season, having participated in 29 matches across various competitions. He played a crucial role in Inter’s 2-1 victory over Feyenoord in the Champions League recently. Remarkably, Bisseck made history as one of the youngest players in Bundesliga at age 16 with Cologne back in 2017, although much of his time has been spent playing outside Germany.

Nagelsmann has also decided to bring back eight players for the 23-man squad, which includes Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka, returning to the national setup for the first time since November 2023, and Dortmund’s winger Karim Adeyemi, who last featured in the 2022 World Cup team. The second leg against Italy is set to take place in Dortmund on March 23.

Germany’s squad for the Nations League features a blend of emerging talents and seasoned professionals. In the goalkeeping department, Oliver Baumann from Hoffenheim, Stuttgart’s Alexander Nübel, and Stefan Ortega from Manchester City will guard the post. As for the defense, alongside Bisseck, the squad includes players like Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich and Real Madrid’s Antonio Rüdiger, among others.

The midfield is anchored by players such as Leon Goretzka and Bayern’s Jamal Musiala. Dortmund’s Pascal Gross adds creativity, while Leroy Sané and Karim Adeyemi bring speed and flair. The forward line sees Mainz’s Jonathan Burkardt teaming up with Borussia Moenchengladbach’s Tim Kleindienst and Stuttgart’s Deniz Undav.
