RUSTON, La. — Al Green’s impressive performance, scoring 20 points, propelled Louisiana Tech to a 76-58 victory over UTEP in their regular season finale on Saturday.
Louisiana Tech’s win secured them a sixth-place finish in Conference USA, allowing them to advance to the tournament’s quarterfinal round. They are slated to face the third seed in Huntsville, Alabama, on Thursday.
Green exhibited exceptional shooting accuracy, making 7 of his 10 attempts and an impressive 6 of 7 from the three-point line for the Bulldogs, who conclude the season with a 20-11 record, 9-9 in the conference. Amaree Abram contributed with 13 points, achieving 5 of 9 from the field and an efficient 3 of 4 from beyond the arc. Additionally, Sean Newman Jr. added 11 points, shooting 3 of 7 from the field and 4 of 6 from the free-throw line.
On the opposing side, UTEP, holding a 17-14 record and 7-11 in the conference, was led by KJ Thomas with 12 points. Complementing his efforts, Devon Barnes chipped in 11 points and secured two steals, while Otis Frazier III added seven points and three steals. Unfortunately for the Miners, this defeat extended their losing streak to seven consecutive games.
The Bulldogs seized control early in the game, taking the lead with 15:12 remaining in the first half, and they never looked back. Newman spearheaded the team’s scoring in the opening half, contributing eight points to establish a 34-22 advantage at halftime. Louisiana Tech further distanced themselves from UTEP with a 7-0 run in the second half, transforming a 10-point lead into a 17-point margin. Outscoring UTEP by six in the final half, Green notably led the second-half efforts with an additional team-high of 14 points.
