PITTSBURGH — During a hockey clash on Saturday, the Boston Bruins faced a setback as their captain, Brad Marchand, exited the game against the Pittsburgh Penguins early in the first period due to an upper-body injury.
The incident occurred when Penguins defenseman P.O Joseph made a hit at the 5:56 mark, sending Marchand into the corner where he collided with the boards, hitting the side of his head. Despite the intensity of the play, no penalty was assessed. Shortly after, Mason Lohrei found the back of the net at 6:33, extending the Bruins’ lead to 2-0.
Following the collision, Marchand received several minutes of medical attention on the ice before he was assisted to the locker room. The game continued with its physical nature, and later in the period, Joseph himself was injured after Bruins forward Mark Kastelic delivered a hit, causing Joseph to leave the game with an upper-body injury as well.
Brad Marchand’s performance this season has been impressive, with 21 goals and 26 assists in 61 games. This marks his 16th year with the Bruins, where he continues to play a pivotal role in the team’s success.
