MILAN — Prada kicked off the Milan Fashion Week on Thursday with its own interpretation of the classic little black dress, a reflection of what Miuccia Prada described as “a very black moment” in global affairs.
“In these challenging times, working becomes doubly difficult,” Prada mentioned backstage. While avoiding explicit political commentary, she emphasized, “Our goal is to create clothing that resonates with women today.”
**Emancipating Women**
Prada’s Fall-Winter 2025-26 collection sought to release women from traditionally feminine silhouettes. The series featuring the little black dress, along with other runway outfits, presented relaxed, non-figure-hugging designs.
Co-creative director Raf Simons underlined that liberation itself is a form of defiance. “You can’t achieve freedom without taking risks. More resistance is essential,” he stated.
The monochrome attire transitioned into playful knit dresses with oversized dimensions reminiscent of Alice-in-Wonderland, which were layered over trousers for cozy winter escapades. Traditional pajamas found a new life as daywear, with button-up tops tucked into flowing skirts.
Exposed raw seams were a deliberate design choice, adding a unique character to garments. Waistlines were fashioned as if temporarily basted, allowing them to be adjusted for different styles, either cinched at the waist for a midi-skirt or elevated over the bust for a minidress.
**Touches of Glamour**
Prada’s collection thrived on versatility, with nearly every piece working as a standalone item. Short-sleeve and tube-knit tops adorned with decorative baubles resembled an array of found treasures. Men’s shirts appeared casually disheveled at the waist, crafting an untidy, yet intentional look.
Everyday staples were revamped with luxurious faux fur stoles and lavish fur trims gracing coats, blazers, and a distinct lime-green poncho.
**Prada’s Esteemed Guests**
Among the attendees in the front row was American actress Hunter Schafer, invited as a gesture of support, according to the designers. Recently, the transgender actress shared news about receiving her new passport, reflecting a male gender marker.
As is customary, fans gathered eagerly by the Fondazione Prada show venue, expressing admiration for the arriving VIPs. Other distinguished guests in attendance included actresses Juliette Binoche, Gal Gadot, Maya Hawke, and Chen Haoyu, alongside Japanese singers Jo and Harua, and Korean singer Karina.
**Speculations on Prada’s Next Move**
The fashion world in Milan is buzzing with rumors about a potential acquisition of the fashion house Versace by an Italian company. Speculation appears to be directed toward the Prada Group, which owns brands like Miu Miu, footwear lines Church’s and Car Shoe, along with Marchesi 1824 pastry shops.
Prada, with a hint of humor, remarked, “I believe this topic is on everyone’s agenda,” when questioned about the group’s potential interest in expanding its portfolio.
