Yankees pitcher Scott Effross is dealing with a grade two left hamstring strain, as confirmed by the team’s manager, Aaron Boone. Reports surfaced on Thursday detailing the situation involving the 31-year-old sidearm right-hander. During his second spring training appearance against the Minnesota Twins, Effross had to exit unexpectedly following just one pitch. This incident occurred in Fort Myers on Tuesday. Boone further shared that Effross underwent a platelet-rich plasma injection and mentioned that the pitcher would need some time to recover and return to full capacity.

Effross joined the Yankees on August 1, 2022, following a deal with the Chicago Cubs. In his initial outings with New York, he posted an impressive 2.13 ERA across 12 2/3 innings and 13 appearances. However, in that same year, on October 13, he had to undergo Tommy John surgery.

In December, Effross faced another hurdle when he needed surgery to address a herniated disk in his back. He eventually made his return to the minors in 2024, debuting on June 19 with Class A Tampa. His performance led to a quick promotion eight days later to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he delivered a 7-1 record and a 2.78 ERA during 27 relief appearances. With a tally of 28 strikeouts against nine walks in 32 1/3 innings, he made a noticeable impact.

Effross re-entered the Yankees lineup when the roster was expanded on September 1. During his first major league appearance since October 3, 2022, he faced a setback, giving up a home run in the fifth inning to Jordan Walker during a 14-7 defeat against St. Louis. He participated in two more games for the Yankees on September 4 and 27, finishing with a 5.40 ERA over 3 1/3 innings during these appearances.

Overall, Effross has maintained a 2.89 ERA over 76 relief appearances and one start throughout his tenure with the Cubs and Yankees over three seasons. For this year, he has a salary set at $800,000.
