JOHANNESBURG — Felix Jones has rejoined South Africa’s coaching staff, aiming to drive the Springboks toward another Rugby World Cup title. His return follows a short tenure in England, where he initially moved to be closer to his family.
Jones left his position with England last August after a relatively brief period due to what was described as dissatisfaction with the work environment’s instability. Although he did not continue his professional engagement with England, the official end of his contract came in December. Now, Jones has reunited with South Africa’s head coach, Rassie Erasmus, taking up a role as assistant coach with the same team he previously assisted to achieve victories in both the 2019 and 2023 World Cups.
Jones is set to resume his duties with South Africa starting Saturday, with his appointment set to conclude following the Rugby World Cup in Australia in 2027. Erasmus expressed his desire for Jones to continue the work he began in the past.
“Jones was a vital part of our coaching squad from 2019 to 2023, and his broad expertise, commitment, and remarkable work ethic will significantly strengthen the coaching team we’ve established from the early days of 2024,” Erasmus remarked. “Having spent some time in England,” Erasmus continued, “his experience working in the U.K. and analyzing opponents from the Six Nations, as well as other major tournaments, will offer us invaluable insights as we prepare for the challenging international season that lies ahead.”
