In Houston, the Rockets powered to a victory over the San Antonio Spurs with a 118-106 win on Wednesday night. Leading the charge was Amen Thompson, who managed to score 25 points and secure eight rebounds. Jalen Green backed him up with 21 points and seven rebounds. The Rockets took control early, as Green’s 16 first-half points contributed to a commanding 64-46 advantage by halftime.
Thompson’s performance came after his ejection in the previous game against Milwaukee, where he was penalized for bringing Giannis Antetokounmpo down by the head and neck. Dillon Brooks also contributed significantly, adding 19 points with an impressive 5-of-8 from three-point range. Houston’s recent success continues as they have triumphed in three out of four contests post-All-Star break.
For the Spurs, Keldon Johnson and Stephon Castle each tallied 22 points. Castle also added seven rebounds to his night’s effort. However, the Spurs continued their struggles, marking their fourth consecutive defeat. De’Aaron Fox had a quieter game, shooting 3-of-12 for seven points, while Jeremy Sochan, who also scored seven, was sidelined in the second half as a precaution after a head impact.
The game saw San Antonio relying heavily on their bench, which delivered 79 points while the starters managed only 27 points on 11-of-35 shooting. Meanwhile, Houston’s dominance on the boards was evident, outrebounding opponents by a significant margin in their recent victories, including a 60-41 edge over the Spurs.
A pivotal moment came in the first quarter when Alperen Sengun’s dunk put the Rockets ahead 23-7, a lead that never wavered below double figures thereafter. Despite attempts to claw back, San Antonio fell short, with their three-point attempts failing at 7 of 39, compared to Houston’s 11 of 38.
Moving forward, both teams are scheduled for more action on Saturday night. The Spurs will challenge the Memphis team, whereas the Rockets will host Sacramento at home.
