HATTIESBURG, Miss. — In a thrilling display of basketball, Judah Brown scored 18 points, propelling South Alabama to an 88-82 victory over Southern Miss on Wednesday night.
Brown was a standout player for the Jaguars, not just for his scoring prowess, but also by contributing six rebounds. The Jaguars, boasting a season record of 20-10 and a 12-5 standing in the Sun Belt Conference, benefited from Dylan Fasoyiro’s impressive performance, who scored 16 points. Fasoyiro showcased his accuracy by hitting 5 out of 8 field goals, including a stellar 4 for 6 from the three-point line, and made 2 of 3 free throws.
Barry Dunning Jr. also played a significant role by adding 14 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Dunning Jr. was efficient, shooting 6 for 14 from the field with two successful shots from long distance out of five attempts.
Southern Miss, which currently holds a 10-20 record and a 5-12 in the conference, saw Denijay Harris lead the charge with an impressive 25 points, complemented by 11 rebounds. Despite Harris’s effort, the team could not break their losing streak, as they suffered their seventh consecutive defeat. Cobie Montgomery added to their total with 21 points, while Alfred Worrell Jr. also contributed 10 points and added two steals to his team’s efforts.
Looking ahead, both teams are slated to wrap up the regular season this Friday. South Alabama, tied in a three-way battle for second place, will host Louisiana, who stands at 8-9. Meanwhile, Southern Miss is scheduled to face Troy at home, who also boasts a 12-5 record in the conference.
