GREENVILLE, S.C. — In a commanding performance on Wednesday night, the Furman basketball team secured a decisive victory over The Citadel, finishing the game with an 85-42 win.
Tom House and Pjay Smith Jr. were key contributors, each amassing 19 points for the Paladins, who now stand at a 22-8 overall record with a 10-7 lead in the Southern Conference.
House exhibited exceptional precision, hitting 6 of 7 shots from the field, including a perfect 6 for 6 from beyond the arc. Smith was also on target, connecting on 7 of 10 attempts, with a noteworthy 4 for 7 from three-point range.
Adding to the team’s success, Garrett Hien made significant contributions with 14 points, achieving this on a 6 of 10 shooting performance, and successfully sinking 2 out of 4 three-point attempts. In addition to scoring, Hien was active on the boards, collecting seven rebounds throughout the match.
For The Citadel, who are enduring a difficult season, Brody Fox offered a bright spot by leading his team with 14 points and adding six rebounds, though it wasn’t enough to alter the outcome for the Bulldogs, who now face their 20th consecutive defeat, bringing them to a 5-23 record overall and 0-17 in conference play.
Looking ahead, both teams are preparing for their next challenges on Saturday; Furman is set to travel to face Wofford, while The Citadel will host East Tennessee State in their ongoing quest for a much-needed win.
