PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Thorns forward Morgan Weaver is set to miss the upcoming season of the National Women’s Soccer League due to an injury to her right knee.
The Thorns revealed Weaver’s injury on Wednesday, along with the news that defenders Nicole Payne and Marie Muller have also been placed on the team’s season-ending injury list.
“Weaver has shared on Instagram, “Sadly, my knee hasn’t completely healed from last season’s injury, so I’ll be restarting the rehab process for my meniscus.” She added, “Nonetheless, I’ll continue to support Portland until the end! I’m not finished yet and look forward to returning for another championship victory!”
Weaver underwent knee surgery last May and made her comeback to the Thorns in September. This January, she received an invitation to train with the U.S. women’s national team.
Since joining the Thorns in 2020, Weaver has participated in 68 matches, netting 16 goals during her stint.
Payne suffered a knee injury during an exhibition match against Angel City at the Coachella Valley Invitational earlier this month. Meanwhile, Muller sustained a knee injury while training with the German national team.
